Stage 3 Assessment 2 (SAC) Marking Scheme



The personal skills that will be specifically assessed at Stage 3 are outlined in the National Person Specification are the following:

1. Empathy & Sensitivity
Capacity & motivation to take in others’ perspectives & to treat others with understanding
Assessed by Patient Simulation

2. Communication Skills
Capacity to adjust behaviour & language as appropriate to needs of differing situations
Assessed by Patient Simulation & Written Exercise

3. Conceptual Thinking & Problem Solving
Capacity to think beyond the obvious, with analytical and flexible mind
Assessed by Written Exercise

4. Professional Integrity
Capacity & motivation to take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate respect for all.
Assessed by Patient Simulation & Written Exercise

5. Coping with Pressure
Capacity to recognise own limitations and develop appropriate coping mechanisms
Assessed by Patient Simulation & Written Exercise


These domains are marked as either:

Very Good Demonstration (Strength) 3 points
Sufficient Demonstration 2 points
Mixed Demonstration (Weakness) 1 point
Little or No Demonstration 0 points

If you receive a “Little or No Demonstration” on any exercise you will be deemed unsuitable for GP training this year. If you receive too many “Mixed Demonstrations” again you will be deemed unsuitable for GP training this year.
